6 Strings * 3 = awesome!

The Mayflower Arts Center
Saturday, October 18, 2014 @ 7:30PM
Doors open at 6:45PM

This month holds one great show guys! This is your best chance to catch me this month. I'll be bringing a helping of my new finger-style tunes and a taste of my song writing chops. My mother says I sing like an angel, so you should be pleased. I'm headed north to play with some heavy hitters up in Ohio. David Youngman, from Hillsdale, MI, was the third place winner this year at the Wallnut Valley Festival in Winfield, Kansas, the world's premier finger-style competition. David exhausts his guitar with harmonic textures and percussion techniques. He's an amazing musician, and I'm really excited to play with him again! Mark Bayer and I have never met, but what I've heard from him is top shelf! He's also graced the stage of the Wallnut Valley Competition, and his jazz inspired guitar and vocals will be an awesome contrast to some of the other stylistic picking going on. Mayflower Arts Center is a brilliant venue for these three acts with three distinct styles. You do not want to miss this show! Click here for tickets.

Chris Weiss Music Newsletter - September 2014

Chris Weiss Music Newsletter

Fall is a time for pensively reflecting on the "real things" in life. What better way to do that than by listening to some incredible music in the best possible locations?

Friday, September 26 at 9 P.M. Central Kentucky Guitar Night is back for our first Friday night show! Our headliner is Neil Jacobs. He covers the world vibe with influences of Gypsy, World, Balkan Folk, Classical, and Modern finger-style, while transforming his 12-string acoustic guitar into his own personal orchestra. As Lexington's premier venue for original music Natasha's Bistro is the perfect setting for this world traveler to share his music and stories.

A masterful performer on the 12 string acoustic guitar with his own ingenious style that the St. Louis Riverfront Times describes as "mesmerizing" and the Austin Chronicle describes as "the rockin'est since early Leo Kottke". Neil draws inspiration from his mind-boggling world travels and experiences, and shares his fascinating stories with his audience.

Saturday, October 18 at 7:30 P.M. will find me in Troy, Ohio for Six Strings X 3 at the Mayflower Arts Center! I'm going back to my roots as a Buckeye for a weekend. I'm going to perform with award winning guitarists David Youngman and Mark Brayer.

Screen Shot 2014-09-18 at 3.24.13 PM.png

Six Strings x 3 will feature Youngman, Weiss, and Bayer playing a solo acoustic fingerstyle program back-to-back, each giving a unique stylistic twist to their music which perfectly complements the other. Youngman finds influence from the likes of Bela Fleck and Billy McLaughlin, Weiss from Paul Simon and Andy McKee, and Bayer has taken a classical guitar background and infused it with the contagious tones of blues and jazz. Each has honed their craft through years of formal study, but also on the road and in competition. David Youngman has the distinction of winning the 2013 Fretboard Festival and was runner-up for the 2013 and 2014 Canadian Guitar Festivals and 2014 Indiana Stringfest, and Chris Weiss and Mark Bayer likewise landed respectable showings at some of the same competitions, Bayer also visiting the Winfield National Fingerstyle Championship this year. Weiss and Bayer will likely also be surprising the audience with their vocal prowess in addition to wowing with their instrument alone.

Equus Run Vineyards

Last summer Triage drummer Sean McCormick and I played  vegetarian dinner on the patio at Equus Run. The food was provided by none other than Azur! The dinner was incredible, and they couldn't get enough of us I suppose. They invited us back. This time we're bringing A-Aron (the bass) with us.

September 7th at Equus Run, Vineyards. 2 - 4 p.m.

Central Kentucky is full of beautiful vineyards. This is one of the best. Come out and hear some good music, including some tunes for the new album all for free!

Summer Dun Good!

Hey Folks,

Its been a wild and great summer so far! I've been teaching and working on the album a ton. I'm making some great progress on that front. I think you guys are really going to enjoy the new flavor. This summer I did some teaching at a youth music conservatory for the Salvation Army in Texas and competed in Brown Co, Indiana at the Indiana Fingerstyle Guitar Competition and Festival. I was able to connect with some good pals and tremendous players. On that note one of them is coming to perform in Lexington this weekend! David Youngman is playing at South Elkhorn Christian Church this Sunday at 4:30 p.m. It's a free show, and you need to be there. So far he has snagged second place in Indiana and this past weekend at the Canadian Guitar Festival! He's headed on to Winfield in September to snag the big ticket prize!

You: "Oh that's cool Chris, but like when are you playin' man?" This Saturday August 9 from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. That's when! I'll be playing for my dinner at Azur in Lexington. Azur is basically the best food Lexington has to offer, and I may be biased, but Triage is some of the best tunes Lexington has to offer.

Keep your eyes peeled on the website for some new pictures. The fantastic Dani Jelly took some great pics at my Natasha's Show with Miss Maggie Lander and Megan (my bride and back up singer).

I have plenty of shows coming your way so stay tuned kids! Until then this is your friendly neighborhood guitar player signing off...

Album Progress and New Shows added

Hello Music and Broccoli Lovers!

I've had a busy first couple of months this year. For starters, chrisweissmusic.com is up and running! With some help from great friends and my editor in chief, I have a new website! It's a new central hub for all things Chris Weiss Music! I have also started a mailing list, to help everyone keep up with me, where I'm performing, my progress on recording, and various descriptions of my musical escapades. You can sign up for it here: http:eepurl.com/PbT0j  If you sign up for my fancy new mailing list, please know that I will not give away or sell your information for any reason. I will only use the list for updates and information about me and my music.

To make the most of your Chris Weiss Music web experience, scroll down on the home site. You'll find a few recordings of my music and my performance schedule posted conveniently on the first page. If your sharing my music with a potential fan (nudge, nudge, wink, wink say no more...) this is a great place to send them. The website's content will multiply magically over the coming weeks and months. Soon I'll be adding a photo page with snap shots of me being awesome and ridiculous. It will likely change your life and make all of your dreams come true. Ok it may not make all of your dreams come true, but it will provide things like, A) an historical account of my introduction to music, B) my writing process, and C) what makes me make the music I make! Don't judge me for alliteration!

I've also been making great progress on my sophomore album! I'm getting close to the recording phase. The process of making an album is long and tumultuous. So far I've just about finished composing the music, and I've done preliminary recordings in my home studio. I'm now to the point in the process where I'm beginning to weed out the songs that aren't strong enough for the album. Don't worry I'll likely still keep these songs in the live rotation, but some songs shine in the studio, while others find their home on stage. This project is going to be very different from my first release.  Over the last several years I've done a lot of songwriting. I've been getting some great feedback from fans that they really like my singing voice. My mom agrees! As a result, this new project is going to incorporate my singing and my finger style playing.  Think of it as Paul Simon meets Andy Mckee. This project will be on going for the next year or so, with releases along the way! If you're interested in supporting me on this project please let me know! I can't do what I do without your help! Stay tuned for more information on how to give financially to help me achieve this goal, and what you can expect in return for your help!

One last thing guys...I'm kicking off the new year of performances finally! Check out my schedule page, and you'll see that I'm playing at Natasha's Bistro in Lexington, KY this Thursday, March 6 at 8 p.m. I'll be sharing the stage with fiddle player and song writer, Maggie Lander. On background vocals I'll be joined by the lovely and talented, Megan Weiss (A.K.A. Editor in Chief)! Thanks for all the support you guys have given me over the past 8 years. Every encouraging word has meant a lot to me. Every time someone has been impacted by the music I create it encourages me that I'm on the right track. I'm so excited to see what is to come! Come out and celebrate with me, the new website, the new project, and a year of awesomeness coming!

Thanks!

chris
